Podcasts to inspire: what we are listening to at LCC

The days are getting shorter, it’s easy to feel isolated, the rain is settling in for the long haul here on the Wet Coast, and with all that adding up it’s not hard to get a serious case of “the glooms” as my friend Leah calls them. So for those of you that use podcasts to help you navigate times like these, we thought we’d highlight a few that our Counsellors here at LCC are listening to right now and finding inspiration from.

Seenthepodcast hosted by Nic Wayara and Lala

- Loved by Amanda

“ I don't listen to a lot of podcasts but one that I absolutely love and follow is @seenthepodcast by two brilliant brown and black queer women @nilotique and @prema_la. Tune in if you are down for some frank, observant, poignant, insightful, nourishing and unapologetic conversations that meander the intersection of personal healing and collective liberation.”

The Read hosted by Kid Fury and Crissle West

- Loved by Katherine

“ In The Read, packaged with spontaneous and organic strokes of comedy, the hosts Kid Fury and Crissle West pay regular tribute to their individual experiences with therapy in addition to conversations on (pop) culture. Fury and West use their experience from their personal therapeutic journeys to talk about details not often readily available or accessible in content relating to therapy, such as specific questions around managing a therapeutic relationship, how to choose a therapist, when is it okay to leave one or say they are no longer helpful, and how to identify when a therapist’s inability to relate based on their location simply will not make a productive nor healthy therapeutic relationship. In the hosts’ “stan” for therapy and the priority of mental health, they are actively and continuously destigmatizing both the sufferings around mental health and the act of seeing a therapist.”

Hey girl hosted by Alex Elle

- Loved by Cat

“What I discovered over the Pandemic, having formally not been much of a podcast listener, is that it can be soooo comforting to stick some earbuds in my ears and feel instantly re-tethered back to a sense of belonging through the sound of someone else’s voice. I discovered @AlexElle’s voice on another podcast actually (which is a great listen to get a sense of her and her work) and fell in love with her presence and take on self-care and healing. Her podcast is warm and funny, thoughtful and inspiring, I recommend for the dark months ahead!”

So hopefully that sparks some curiosity for you dear reader to explore what might nourish you! For another way to stay inspired follow us on instagram, @liberatecounselling to keep in touch…
